For decades, IFAWPCA Conventions have been important occasions for the exchange of information and business in the construction industry. As the host of the 38th IFAWPCA Convention, we have prepared comprehensive programs and enjoyable social activities for one ultimate purpose, to renew old friendships and establish new ones. Mr. CHAN, Min-Tang, for ATSUMI AWARD

Mr. CHAN, Min-Tang, the project manager KSEC deploys for the MRT Muzha Line Extension, is an engineering veteran with 35-year experiences in planning and construction techniques involved in a wide variety of major construction works in the country. Mr. Chan, is known for his dedication to and leadership demonstrated with his team members to completing each and every assignment, regardless the hardship.
A man known for his activism and optimism, Mr. Chan is a model leader and executive of full dedication. Taking construction as lifetime mission, Mr. Chan believes in pragmatism and full precision when it comes to public construction works as he sees quality of public construction works key to sound economic construction and development, on which welfare of the population and community depend. Mr. Chan is frequently seen in construction sites, day or night and even in adversary weather conditions, overlooking construction works, directing and cheering his team members committed to carrying out construction works effectively.
Mr. HUANG, Chien-Jeng, for CHOI CONSTRUCTION FIELDMAN AWARD

Mr. HUANG, Chien-Jeng was assigned as a construction supervisor of the 2009 World Games Main Stadium and strived with all his partners. His team was set for the construction of pre-cast concrete grandstand, metal roof frame, metal handrails of grandstand, and spectator seating.
He participated in the regular planning meeting held by the designer at the initial design stage, apart from this, he studied with the subcontractors to develop the workable method in Taiwan and compiled the construction plan for practice.
As the project is designed by Japanese, the misunderstanding and mistakes occurred under the different language and culture. He therefore took on the key man role to convey the discussion result from design group to his colleagues and made the performance correct.
Dr. George P. Kuo, for YEOH TIONG LAY AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE

Dr. George P. Kuo is a registered professional engineer. He graduation from the National Taiwan University and received his Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering at the North Carolina State University in the United States, specializing in structures and construction management. After returning to Taiwan from the United States in 1991, Dr. Kuo devoted himself to the building and construction business. In succession, he took in charge of Queensland Consulting Engineers, Hsin-Hsiung Construction, Hung-Shen Construction, and Hung-Shun Development Company. Formosa Builders was established in 2001 as the holding company for the above four entities. Currently, Dr. Kuo serves as the President and CEO of Formosa Builders.
Information on Taiwan
Visa Requirement
A visa is generally required for foreign passport holders upon entry to Taiwan. However, if your passport and the length of your stay satisfy the following three items, no visa is required.
- You are holding a passport issued from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Costa Rica, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK, the USA and Vatican City State;
- Your passport is valid for at least 6 months after entry; A confirmed return air ticket or an air ticket and visa for the next destination, and confirmed seat reservation for departure; and
- The length of your stay is less than 30 days. The 30 days' duration of stay starts from the next day of arrival and is not extendable.
If you are a national of the above countries eligible for visa-exempt entry but hold an emergency or temporary passport valid for more than six months, or you hold a US passport valid for less than six months, you may apply for a Landing Visa at the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. A visa can be obtained from Taiwan’s embassies, consulates, or designated offices. Please check with your travel agent for necessary procedures.
Climate April is the most pleasant season in Taiwan with average temperatures around 22-26 C.

Taiwan is GMT+8 and does not have seasonal time variation.

Currency and Banks
The currency is the New Taiwan dollar (NT$). The exchange rate is approximately NT$32-33 to US$1. Foreign currencies can be exchanged at hotels, airports, and government-designated banks. Major credit cards are widely accepted and traveler's checks may be accepted by tourist-oriented shops and at most international hotels and banks. Banks are generally open from 09:00 to 15:30, Monday to Friday and closed on weekends and public holidays.
