Obituary: Antonio (Tony) DeVito, 84, of Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, CT – (From Lesko & Polke Funeral Home) Antonio (Tony) DeVito, 84, of Fairfield, died on June 24, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Born in Sant’Angelo dei Lombardi, Italy, Tony left home at 16 to find work. This has taken him to many places around the world; Venezuela, Argentina, Switzerland, then back to Italy where he found his fiancée of nearly 60 years, Carmela.

She predeceased him in August 2018 and life was never the same again.

Throughout his life, Tony liked to say he had “hands of gold”. He was a master carpenter and owned his own construction business for 35 years.

He spent much of his time doing projects in his yard and loved traveling to his homes in Greenville, NY, and Englewood, FL.

He was incredibly devoted to his family, especially to his devoted daughters and sons-in-law who were like sons to him: Sina and Matt Binkowitz and Millie Antoniette and Scott Pollack and four beloved grandchildren who could do no wrong. her eyes: Alexa and Christopher Binkowitz and Mia and Anthony Pollack.

He will be greatly missed by his best friend, Molly, whom he rescued three years ago. The family would like to thank their caregivers, Lucille, Rose and Sandra for the compassionate care they provided to “their” Tony.

He was the son of the late Vito DeVito and Tommasina Cetta, brother of Lucia, Gaetana, Carmela and the late Giuseppina. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Friends may welcome family at Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, Fairfield Center on Thursday, June 30 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. His Christian burial mass will be celebrated at Saint-Antoine de Padoue. Church, 149 S. Pine Creek Road, Fairfield on Friday, July 1 at 12:00 p.m. with private entombment.

Instead of flowers, the family asks you to raise a glass of wine or plant a fruit tree in their memory, as Tony would have preferred.
